Ginger is a plant native to India. It is grown for its rhizome which is widely used as a spice in many Asian cuisines and in Europe in drinks or gingerbreads.
The name of Zanzibar comes from the Arabic name of ginger zenj place where the traders went to stock up. Since the Middle Ages, aphrodisiac virtues are attributed to him. Love potions were made by the Bacchantes with ginger. Madame du Barry gave it to her lovers. This virtue is only supposed but not proven.
